Every year it late February the wave hits me. I start getting jitters. Sportscenter starts showing highlights of spring training and I can't help it. I jump out of my chair an yell, "I want baseball!" Ok, maybe I don't do that, but I have to try really hard to contain myself.
I see that first special baseball edition Eastbay magazine and I'm off to the basement where I won't be seen for the next two hours. Although I rarely ever buy anything, I still scavenge through the pages and make my list of "things I would buy if I was rich." Then come the first baseball Sports Illustrated's, which I actually read instead of just look at the pictures.
My next assignment is to get my gear ready. I dust off the mitt and make sure it's nice and oiled up. Then, I dump out all of the dirt left in my shoes from the past season. Now the wait begins. I pray that the snow will melt as fast as possible.
Finally, the first day of practice rolls along and I'm more than ready. Too bad it starts indoors. Yes it's still fun, but it's just not baseball if it's not outside. For about the first week the indoor practices quench my thirst, but after that, I need more. I just can't contain myself anymore. I'll go out there with a blow dryer if that's what it takes. I just want to play some baseball.

I think a lot of your team mates get this same feeling! There is just something about this time of year. I thought you had a good topic that was personable to you and something you have a passion for. Nice work! (:
ReplyDeleteIn your writing I think that your personality of what I have been around you too see comes out. It has little bits and pieces of humor throughout the writing and I am glad that it was incorrporated throughout it because it made me want to keep reading. I think that you could have expand on more of this writing maybe going farther into depth with some of the detail and the idea. All in all you did a great job!
ReplyDeleteI love all of the humor and personality you put into this! It made it really enjoyable to read. I really liked the part about how you would take a blow dryer out there, if thats what it would take! That was super funny! I feel bad for all of the spring sports this year because of the bad weather! I hope it gets nice outside soon!
ReplyDeleteI can only imagine how crabby you are at mother nature right now. She is not being very nice right now. I feel the same way too, because I love going to baseball games. They are my favorite sport to go to. Hopefully you'll get at least a couple games in this year:) HAHA just kidding. But seriously, I totally understand your frustration. Nice work!
ReplyDeleteI really liked the expressions you put into this writing. Your personality really cam through. As a fellow spring athlete, I have the same thoughts about the weather. But I know I'm not near as antsy as you to get outside and play.
ReplyDeleteI could definitely feel your love for baseball. You did a really good job of showing your love for basebal without just straight up saying that you love it.
ReplyDeleteHunter,
ReplyDeleteNicely done here. You capture your excitement about the coming of spring and baseball. The one word I want you to look at is "scavenge" and its meaning in the overall blog. Maybe scour is the word you mean to use--or scrutinize.
